Volunteers are crucial to the success of Saint John School. At the beginning of each school year,
parents pledge to volunteer a minimum of five hours during the school year through the
Give Me Five
Program.

Give Me Five! ….is a promise.  

A promise not only from you, but a promise to your child and a promise to our school.  You promise to
volunteer five hours of your time during the school year.  Whether it is helping in the classroom,
reading to children, helping at a school event, helping with activities or tasks from home, or dozens of
other opportunities, it is all important and it all counts.

We can promise you that you will never look back and regret volunteering in your child's school.
WAYS TO VOLUNTEER:
  • Be a guest speaker/presenter in classroom.
  • Arrange for curriculum related speakers, exhibits,
    demonstrations.
  • Help on the playground, in the classroom or auditorium during
    recess.
  • Assist in the lunch room.
  • Be a room parent (organize class events and celebrations).
  • Assist with office tasks (filing, copying, laminating, etc.).
  • Serve on Race for Education committee.
  • Tutor individuals or small groups of students.
  • Mentor a student interested in your profession.
  • Volunteer as extra eyes, ears and hands in classroom.
  • Assist teacher with tasks at home in evenings (cutting,
    collating, assembling, etc.).
  • Assist with building needs or donate service (cleaning,
    organizing, concrete work, painting, etc.).
  • Help with Reading Competition.
  • Serve on the Home & School Association.
  • Help with Santa’s Workshop.
  • Help with Fun Fair.
  • Help with Field Day.
  • Help with Fall Festival.
  • Organize a school fundraiser.
  • Assist with sorting and distribution of school fundraiser.
  • Assist with Catholic Schools’ Week (Help in classrooms,
    organize National Food Day, etc.).
  • Sell Scrip (buy, sell at place of employment, sell to friends and
    family).
  • Collect and manage Box Tops and Campbell labels.
  • Help to plan family fun events (Book Bingo, bowling, roller
    skating, etc.).
  • Donate books, art materials, musical instruments, games....
    the list is endless.
